MINIATURE ECHOES THROUGH THE ART OF THE GEE'S BEND QUILTMAKERS

Meet the Artist! Susan Hess of Georgetown will be at the library to talk about her "miniature echoes:" weaving and embroidery depictions of the US Postal Service 2006 commemorative stamps entitled "American Treasures: Quilts of Gee's Bend." These stamps, originally gifted to Hess, were her introduction to the unique work and art produced by the quiltmakers of the Gee's Bend area of Alabama's rural Black Belt. She was deeply inspired to uplift their work and stories, and 2020 provided the necessary downtime to create her miniature echoes. Her work and that of the Gee's Bend quiltmakers are sure to excite! And an engaging reception on Friday, May 9 2:00-4:00PM will provide important context to these women’s work and art.

This program is free and open to the public. For questions or directions, call 207-865-3307.
